A fatal crash in Lee’s Summit illustrates this too well. Last Sunday, around 1 P.M., at a time when many families are on their way home from church or brunch, a 19-year old Independence man was exiting I-470 at Blue Parkway, and was struck by a vehicle that was described as traveling at “a high rate of speed.” That driver had apparently run the red light.
The collision killed the one driver at the scene and injured the speeding vehicle’s driver. Police reported a strong odor of alcohol
He has now been charged with involuntary manslaughter in the death and bond was set at $150,000.
Tragic drunk driving accidents like this occur daily throughout the U.S., and what occurred in Lee’s Summit Sunday on average occurred 27 more times that day. And Monday, another 28 people died, and every day of the week.
