Drunk driving kills every hour of the day

On behalf of Noland Law Firm, LLC posted in car accidents on Friday, May 8, 2015.

Drunk driving accidents can happen at any time. While they tend to cluster around the times you would expect, late night on the weekends or during major holidays, far too many drivers are intoxicated at all hours of the day and night. And deadly crashes occur far too often.

A fatal crash in Lee’s Summit illustrates this too well. Last Sunday, around 1 P.M., at a time when many families are on their way home from church or brunch, a  19-year old Independence man was exiting I-470 at Blue Parkway, and was struck by a vehicle that was described as traveling at “a high rate of speed.” That driver had apparently run the red light.

The collision killed the one driver at the scene and injured the speeding vehicle’s driver. Police reported a strong odor of alcohol from the injured man and found a bottle of whisky close to his vehicle.

He has now been charged with involuntary manslaughter in the death and bond was set at $150,000.

Tragic drunk driving accidents like this occur daily throughout the U.S., and what occurred in Lee’s Summit Sunday on average occurred 27 more times that day. And Monday, another 28 people died, and every day of the week.

In addition to the 28 fatalities, if you spend two minutes to read is webpage, two more people have been injured in alcohol related crashes. And that continues every two minutes of every hour of every day.

The tragedy of these crashes is often compounded by the drunk driver lacking insurance, meaning the family of the victim may need legal assistance to deal with insurance companies over uninsured drivers insurance.
